The engineering firm wants to run lighting and receptacle circuits (120/208V) from a remote location Panelboard into a separate building without a disconnecting means for the circuits where they enter the building -
Is this code compliant ?

I agree with tom but you might note there are exceptions to 225.32. Generally not applicable but there are situations,.

Exception 1 seems to allow it. What’s your interpretation ?

What code cycle are you under. Before the 2020 you couldn't run more than a single circuit to a remote structure. How many circuits are they proposing to run

2020. They’re running 3 circuits at 208V
ABC neutral and ground

It seems somewhat clear-cut.
In order to circumvent the disconnect requirement the facility would need to meet all the criteria in the exception. IMO this would require full time personnel and written LOTO such as at am industrial facility,.

I answered too fast, generally no.
And per the previous post probably not
For 3, 3 phase circuits, it would be easier to run a feeder

You're in luck. A MWBC is considered a single circuit in this case.

Wait: Is that three or nine circuits? One MWBC or three MWBCs?

Electrically speaking, a feeder is more efficient than individual circuits.

The exception will probably apply since it’s an industrial faculty with qualified electricians on site - they’ll argue they have a LOTO. But it’s poor design in my opinion

I agree the exception may work but make sure they label where the the multiwire branch circuit is fed from. A 3 pole disconnect where the wiring hits the building would be a simple install and easier, IMO then doing permanent marking of where the breaker is in another building.

Agreed completely! Thanks to all

For 120 v mwbc it’s a snap switch.
Is a 3 pole snap switch available?
Absolutely.
