Looking at 225.7(C) - nothing jumps out at me to indicate 277V to ground is OK for outdoor lighting in multi-family dwellings [condos, apartments, etc.]. These dwellings are not considered 'public' buildings.

What say you - is 277V OK for the outdoor lighting for these types of dwellings?

Thanks for any feedback.

I dont have my code book in front of me, But early in 210 we are directed that lighting for dwelling units is limited to 120v. If these outdoor lighting units are not under the access of the personal renting the condo/apt then I would say its ok... check with AHJ to make sure.

I am familiar with 210.6(C) - however 225.7(C) is specific to outside branch circuits and feeders and it seems to limit the use of 277V lighting to specific areas/occupancies - industrial establishments, office bldgs., schools, stores and other commercial or public bldgs.

Residential apartment bldgs. and condos are not on that list - that's why I'm asking.

210 allows 277V for certain types of lighting, 225 limits the location of that lighting.

Unless this property is dual zoned and has established industrial, commercial, or public facilities thereon or therein, I say 277V outdoor lighting is a no go for your situation. In support of this conclusion, 225.7(A) states branch circuits shall comply with Article 210... so fixtures installed outside makes no difference.

Thank you - that is my thinking also - just wanted another thinking likewise before I made mention of this situation.
