Hello,

I have an interesting setup we are working with (Design). This is on a military base where the base acts as the utility. They have a pad-mounted transformer outside one building, let's call this building "A". Transformer feeds Building "A" and another building, "B". Building A has an existing MDP with service conductors from the transformer feeding it. This MDP is antiquated and does not allow for feed breakers exceeding 100A. We need 200A. The size of the conductors is unknown. One idea we have is to feed a second set of conductors to Building A from the transformer in the location we are setting the new panel. We would hit a SE rated DS outside and pop into the panel on the other side of the wall.

I can only really see where we could do this with special permission from the AHJ on base, is there somewhere else this is allowed? For reference, we are building a Mechanical Room inside an existing woodworking shop (Fire rated and separated) that is inside a building that serves 1 half as the WW shop and the other as a vehicle repair shop. This Mechanical Room serves heating water to three separate buildings.

The only other option I see is tapping the existing incoming conductors to an ECB next to the existing MDP then over to the room panel (approx 50' away).

Thanks for your input.

Being a military base your AHJ might have the only answer.
Are we to assume the transformer is base owned (this is not a utility service). If so, I agree with Post #2.

You can have two sets running from the transformer to the building, but generally the disconnects need to be grouped and you can't have more than 6 total disconnects. See 230.40 ex #3 and 230.70-72

I'm not sure how Exception #3 applies here. I would classify this as an industrial installation and not a one-family dwelling.
