I have an existing 3 phase 240/120B hileg switchgear (Delta - 4 wire). I want to provide some equipment with 480 VAC so I have specified a 240 Delta (3-wire) to 480 Y step up transformer to be connected to the switchgear. Is this compatible? I cannot find a reference in NEC stating that it's possible or not possible. Thank you.

Sounds fine to me, since you're only using the 3Ø, 3 wire, 240 volt supply the transformer shouldn't care.

Just be aware that the transformer must be documented as being suitable for step-up use. Most are, but some old ones may not have the necessary documentation available if the mfr is no longer in business.
