Proposal to revise text
Original Text
(B)(1) Multiwire Branch Circuits
Except where limited by 210.4(B), individual single pole circuit breakers with or without identified handle ties, shall be permitted as the protection of each ungrounded conductor of multiwire branch circuits that serve only single phase line to neutral loads.
Revised Text
In accordance with the requirements of 210.4(B) individual circuit breakers with identified handle ties, shall be permitted as the protection of each ungrounded conductor of multiwire branch circuits that serve only single phase line to neutral loads
Substantiation
210.4(B) requires the disconnecting means of a multiwire branch circuit to "simultaneously disconnect all ungrounded conductors". The current wording of 240.15(B)(1) is misleading and seems to allow the single pole breaker to be used without the identified handle tie.
First crack at proposal writing. I hope I posted this right.
