I have a step-up transformer, followed by an enclosed circuit breaker (ECB), which then serves a water heater. The contractor is requesting the transformer to be installed in a different location than that shown on the drawing. The transformer and ECB will be on opposite sides of the same wall. The conduit between them will be less than 10 feet. The transformer secondary current matches the ampacity of the secondary conductors and the ECB rating. I see nothing in the transformer tap rule that would disallow this (i.e., the transformer and ECB being in different rooms). Thoughts?
