Will 240V burn up a 120V well pump motor ? Or will it just not work ?

(Exclude any re-wiring of the motor as it is submerged).
Does it have a control box up top? Or just two wires out to the pump? Doesn’t really matter, yes, it will burn it up running at twice it’s rated voltage. LOL!
You might luck out and just blow the control box up top if it has one.

Ok , thanks... The HO just called and said they have no water pressure. My guys done a service upgrade today. I'll head on over. .

They changed the service today. The owner has just called saying they have no water.

My helper said he put a white wire with old coloring on it. On a breaker.
I was thinking the old coloring may should've been put back on the neutral. They know to mark the white wires when they take them off. But he thought he missed one when he seen some old coloring on a white.

It would be uncommon for a submersible to be 120 volt, but if it’s a shallow well, it’s possible. Also check for a low pressure safety shut off type pressure switch. It has a manual reset arm on the side. Sometimes used if the well goes dry frequently and prevents the pump from running dry. If the power was off for a while, they may have used up the water in the pressure tank, which will trip the switch. Pull up on it until the arm holds itself up.

Thanks for the replies. I just got back. Checked every thing . Crawled in the crawl space, checked both sides of the pressure switch, Getting 240V . So then I knew it was not any thing we done.
So I crawl back out. I tell them the pump is likely shot. Any idea how old it is? Oh it's probably 20 years old. He says, I have noticed the pressure going down.
Dang it, I said. I'm missing Discovery Channels Battle Bots. So I head back to the house. All's clear...
