240 V extension cord Use

I have a electric dryer outlet next to my walk out garage. I want to run a portable 240V heater in the garage when I need to. Can I buy a 240v extension cord and plug one end into the dryer outlet, then the other end into the cord on the heater? Anything special I would need? Thank You
