I went to a job where I was to GFI Protect a hydro massage tub in a residence. The existing tub was hard wired, with a 240V feed, no neutral. So I slapped in a 240V GFI breaker, Landed the two hots on the breaker (obviously) and landed the neutral wire from the breaker on the neutral bar in the panel.
Will the Breaker still function properly?

Yes. Because current in, and current out will still be monitored by the GFI breaker.
