240 volt Lighting

I am being told light fixtures rated for 120-277V can also operate at 240V, single phase 2-Hots? Is that correct? I am getting conflicting info.

Seems like they should label “120/277” instead of “120-277” then.

Never knew this.

Well the link to the other thread was about electronic, fluorescent ballasts. Old school HID ballasts could definitely be hooked up 240V but nobody uses those anymore. We need to know more about the OPs lights before a real answer can be given.

120-277 would be electronic, 120/277 and 120/208/240/277 would be magnetic multi tap.
