I hope you didn't pay that electrician the full price of the job yet. This is not only a code violation, but it is also one of those types of violations that really does present a clear and immediate danger. I highly recommend that you not use this hot tub until you get it wired correctly.

will call building dept

will call building dept

I call the local building inspector , he is coming on Tuesday. Don't want this guy to lose his license. ?????? He was aware I was
going to get it inspected. Advice ???

He won't lose his license ( if he has one) for this he will just fail the inspection or you will fail the inspection.

If you the owner have a homeowner permit and the inspector finds out that an electrician has been doing the work he may want the elctrician to pull a permit in his name.

Normally what they require is that the work be corrected.

Both you and the electrician could lose a lot more if this work is not corrected. I have seen some really crappy hot tub installs and no was was hurt but I wouldn't want to take the chance.

Called the electrician He is licensed in NY ( checked with Suffolk county where live ) He has a corp that he works from ( Checked with dept of state). Don't think I should post the company name
I called him and he is meeting with the inspector and I on Tuesday.
My golf buddy is in local 3 in nyc and he said " it might work , But ITS NOT RIGHT OR SAFE".
Thank you for the great advice everyone

He needs to loose his license--- I would call him first and have him correct the install. He may not be licensed anyway

If he is licensed it's hard to imagine that he ever installed a hot tub before ( legally that is ).

I just assumed there wasn't a GFCI breaker.

The fact that he doesn't have a neutral makes me think he may have connected to an existing circuit ( seen that done ). Who knows what wire size.

But strange as it may seem they don't normally do anything about shoddy work so long as it gets inspected and the problems are corrected.

#6 wire flat one 6/2. guess he should have used 6/3 . can a neutral be added it is in 3/4 conduit.
better just to have him run all new wire. Its about a 50ft run

Make the electrician fix the install or do not pay him. If the electrician gets in any trouble, it is his own fault for doing such a bad job.

If you are talking about 3/4" PVC outside he can't pull NM in conduit and need an insulated ground as well as a neutral.

Have him read the code book and the installation instructions that come with the hot tub. Then meet and talk with then inspector.

This question has been answered. Since the poster is not an electrician I'm closing this thread in accordance with forum rules.
