I have a project installing 24v dc and cat5e cabling to a PTZ camera mounted on a pole. I would like to install the power and data in a conduit about 30' long. Does the code permit this? I can't find anything saying it can't?? I have been assured from our IT guy that there shouldn't be any problem with the data a power together in a conduit for this length of run but I would like to hear from you folks on that as well.
TIA

Both are power limited circuits if the power supply is appropriately rated. I don't see any issue with it.

I've worked with cameras that required 24VAC or 12VDC, but never 24VDC. All the CCTV transformers I've used have been Class II.

Not only should you be able to run power and data in the same conduit, in some cases you can run them in the same CAT5 cable. One pair for video, one pair for data, 2 pairs for power. The only issue is the current draw of your camera and voltage drop. Being a PTZ it's unlikely that you can supply it through 2-pair 24ga. On the voltage drop side, many of our longer runs are fixed cameras that don't require data, and thus have 3 pairs for power.

Every application is different. The only thing that's occasionally overlooked is surge protection. I'd rather burn a $500 surge protector instead of a $5000 DVR.

Rick you're right the voltage is 24VAC. Some of the camera are running on POE but the PTZ cameras need to be fed with 24VAC.
Thanks,
