I have a situation where we are installing a fixture with one single 18AWG wire with an LED at the end. I have a plenum ceiling, so I am installing 18AWG plenum rated wire from the power supply to below the gyp board ceiling and fire stopping around the penetration. I was planning on using shrink wrap to make the wiring connection from the plenum rated wire to the fixture wire inside the fixture.
Is there anything in the NEC that prohibits this connection?:-?

If this is not an approved lighting system I don't believe you can run open conductors for lighting behind ceilings or walls. Check out art. 411.4

411.4 Specific Location Requirements.
(A) Walls, Floors, and Ceilings. Conductors concealed or extended through a wall, floor, or ceiling shall be in accordance with (1) or (2):
(1) Installed using any of the wiring methods specified in Chapter 3
(2) Installed using wiring supplied by a listed Class 2 power source and installed in accordance with 725.130
