Has anyone ever run into a code reference that allows running 24VDC cable with plastic air tubing. I understand that NEC 300.8 prohibits this as it states, "Raceways or cable trays containing electric conductors shall not contain any pipe, tube, or equal for steam, water, air, gas, drainage, or any service other than electrical.” And the NEC Handbook comments under Section 300.8 specifically prohibits installation of an electrical conductor in a raceway or cable tray that includes a drain, water, oil, air, or similar pipe.
Does this code reference encompass DC or only AC conductors?

If the 24VDC is an Article 725 installation, then 300.8 does not apply. See 725.3. There is no reference to 300.8 in Article 725.

special rules apply to limited energy circuits. my guess is that it is ok.

All we do where I work is low voltage controls. We are sub-contractors for Johnson Controls in the Pentagon and National Institutes of Health and we run our controls in with pneumatic poly-tubing whenever we can whether it be in a tray or conduit and have never had any problems with it.

Pneumatic tubing in conduit with "low voltage" is common in jails. I thought there was a 08 code change on this issue, but I didn't find one.

Thanks for all your input. We have found that similar plants in Texas and California have done this too with no issues from the inspector.
