2008 code, first sentence includes "shall be bonded to the service equipment enclosure..."

Third sentence says "The equipment grounding conductor for the circuit that is likely to energize the piping shall be permitted to serve as the bonding means."

Inspectors here have been making us run a continuous (non broken) #8 bare copper from the gas pipe to the service. I don't see it that way. I think it only needs to be bonded to a correctly sized equipment grounding conductor. Who is right and how do I argue this?

Thanks,
Jerry

Gentlemen,

Part of the requirement of the inspector is absolutely incorrect!
Inspectors here have been making us run a continuous (non broken) ......
This is a bonding jumper and is not required to be continuous and unbroken. If it is being installed in accordance with 250.104(B) then it can hit the grounding electrode conductor if it is sufficient size.

For CSST gas piping the size and point of termination will be included in the manufacturer?s installation instruction but it is still a bonding jumper therefore not required to be continuous.
