Unless required by a spec we always use self grounding receptacles. Saves on labor. With the growing use of MC-AP I foresee even more self grounding receptacles used in the future.

Rob....I agree that is just about all I see in Va. and DC anymore.

MCap could be a way of going green so to speak. Green no pun intended (EGC) or lack of. MCap is alowing us to reduce the amount of copper usage..ie. precious metal and saves a bit on labor as well. I like the product. Just my opinion.

Are typical receptacles self grounding or is it a special receptacle? What is the typical cost difference?

Spec grade receptacles are usually self grounding. The cheapo 39 cent ones aren't. The cheapo self grounding receptacles don't cost much more. You should see a metal clip on the 6-32" mounting screw. This provided the self grounding function.

I guess AL is not a "precious metal" yet...

I just want to say read the specs closely before using either MCap, AC or self grounding receptacles without jumpers.

Most of the specs I see ask for copper EGCs. We already had one member get caught on this by the jobs engineer after the cables where all run.
