If I am running feeders in pvc underground to a separate building is it necessary to install a grounding conductor? I say, 'no'. My colleague says, 'yes'. My reasoning is based around 250.32 and the principle of parallel paths for current to flow on what is supposed to be a non-current carrying conductor (the grounding conductor). If the conduit run were above ground in a continuous metallic raceway (rigid conduit) then 'yes' I would need the grounding conductor. The reason is that the concern for providing a path for arc fault overrides the concerns about any parallel paths to current created by the grounding conductor. Who is correct?
