At a remote building (240v, 50amps), do I need to run a grounded conductor back to the main service IF I have a grounding electrode at the remote building?

Each time I read these section (250.4A5 vers. 250.32A), I come up with a different conclusion.

A grounded conductor is only required if you have line to neutral loads.

An Equipment Grounding Conductor is always required, unless coping with existing work.

I suspect there will be lighting at the building so yes you would need a grounded conductor and an egc. In the 2005 code you could use 3 wire if it met a few conditions but 2008 NEC now requires 4 wire in that situation.

What prevents me from using 240 volt luminaires?
