NFPA 26.5.4.1.3 apparently requires
26.5.4.1.3 a trouble signal shall be received when the system or any portion of the system at the protected premises is placed in a bypass or test mode. Our AHJ is requiring this of our City Municipal fire alarm facility, and I know of many, if not most, especially dated FACPs that do not provide for such reporting. Any input on this is appreciated.

I know this was required on all projects I worked on. I think it could be silenced but had to be non cancelling to the monitoring service.

This particular NFPA requirement is not for local annunciation of test and bypass, it is for transmission to the central station. There are many FACPs in service that have no capability of transmitting specific "in test" or "bypassed" signals to the central station. The newer Contact ID capable systems may. I don't see any exception to the above NFPA section, and as such I don't see how such compliance is possible. Furthermore I have never seen such specific signals being sent to the central station. I supposed a general "trouble" could come of the FACP dry contacts but it would not be specific to test or bypass.

Hmm. I am acrually answering my own question after reading NFPA 72 §26.5.4.1.3 more carefully. In that it does say a "trouble" signal needs to be sent if system put on test or bypassed. Thanks just the same.

That's what I said. Monitoring can be by direct dialing to wherever, a central station or a monitoring company. If the system does not have the ability to do this it can certainly be updated.

Every panel I've ever spec'd or worked on had a dedicated or programmable trouble relay on the FACP motherboard. Every dialer I've ever seen is capable of receiving at least one hardwired trouble input. Match "A" to "B" and you're all good.
