Did a panel upgrade last week. Took a glance, picked up materials and dove into it.....tied in a old interior now "sub panel" which I thought was a standard 60 amp panel...then I learned that it was 120v only......so not having the correct breaker on hand....I slap the purchased 260 breaker in and heat it up, planning to bring another breaker and install it....

So the question is....would that 260 breaker trip correctly if overloaded with only one phase landed on it.....I assume that either side of the breaker works independently from the other and it would work fine, but not sure....??? Im not sure I've seen a 160 breaker type BR???

Sounds the same as landing a 2 pole load on a 3 phase breaker, not uncommon. I'd be tempted to leave it Mule, unless you like looking for obscure parts.
