I have a hilti gun (powder actuated tool) that I've been using to mount disconnects on a block wall, and junction boxes on column's, I've heard from someone that this is not legal by code, is this true?

The only thing Ive heard is that some places will not let you use one of these tools w/o the proper training/certificates. I dont know of any code that forbids using powder actuating tools to securely mount equipment, tho I could see where say a natural gas plant wouldnt allow such tools in certain areas. Job spec perhaps? (i.e., 'everything must be bolted on')

I believe it was many decades ago when OSHA started requiring strict training, certification and safety when using them on a jobsite.

I'm sure you could contact Hilti for the latest in news.

Yeah, I'm aware of the certification, just making sure, it was a coworker who said the city inspector said they could not be used, and he had to resecure with tapcons/screws

To me that ruling would have to be based on the pullout strength of the fastener rather than the method used to set it.
