210.6 seems to say that Max voltage for medium base lamp holders is 120v.
My medium base screw shell lamp holder is labeled 600v and I can purchase 120v-277v LEDs anywhere. Lots of buildings have 277 to old electric discharge Lumineers. So it would seem that a simple line voltage connection would be possible to upgrade to LEDs if not for that pesky 210.6

Don't see a retriction in fact 210.6(C) is specifically 277V requirements.
Found lots of listings for 277V mogul base E39.

I believe part of issue that requires the E39 base on 277V is an arcing factor. The E39 base shell threads sit deeper within the shell insulating material than the E26.

I found the answer in article 225.7(C) circuit exceeding 120 V nominal between conductors and not exceeding 277 V nominal to ground shall be permitted to supply Lumineers for illumination of outdoor areas of industrial establishments, office, buildings, schools, stores, and other commercial or public buildings.

I don't see the confusion here...
(C) 277 Volts to Ground. Circuits exceeding 120 volts, nominal,
between conductors and not exceeding 277 volts, nominal,
to ground shall be permitted to supply the following:
(1) Listed electric-discharge or listed light-emitting diode type
luminaires

Side note: Lumineers is the name of an indie rock band, light fixtures are luminaires...
