This is a re-post , I didn't get many replies to the first attempt.

Hello,
I would like to know if someone would/could recomend any particular book(s) that I could read in order to obtain a more indepth understanding of the electrical equipment/apparatus between the incoming power transmission lines, and the main panel. IE ... transformers and maintenance, capacitor banks, etcetera.
There are so many books to chose from, and some would require you to have a PHD in order to decipher what you were reading. I know that this is the Mike Holt forum, but I'm sure there are other great books as well.
Can you more experienced persons help me out ?

Carl :)

Right here.
I guess my recommendation would be "Lineman's and Cableman's Handbook". It's been in print for maybe 50 years, and is constantly updated. It's a fantastic book, in my opinion, and has lots of pictures and diagrams. I think it's just what you need. A little pricey, however, at nearly 100 bucks. You can snag an older edition on eBay for just a few bucks.

Thanks, that happens to be one of the titles that I've been pondering as to buying or locate and check out at a local library.

Had to move on to drinking more refined beverages with less accumulated kick , of course when I drank beer, it was almost always followed up with some good ole boy shots , than all whiskey . Left me very  at times . Only to awaken the next morning  at myself .

I just looked it up. That book has been in print for 80 years now. Wow. The first edition was in 1928. My copy is from 1982. Time for a new edition, me thinks. Too late to ask Santa.

Check the Union hall, or down at the Poco. They might have one (Cableman's book) layin' around.

Thanks, I certainly didn't think about the POCO having older versions lying around, I'll make a call on Thursday or Friday ... tomorrows all tied up .

You can drop a hint to your wife/kids for an early Valentines, Birthday, Fathers' Day, or other special event gift ! Of course Santa still pays !

make sure you check out which edition of lineman's and cableman's handbook that you are buying, I saw a couple of 1964 editions on ebay for 20 bucks, but on amazon for 50 or 60 bucks you can get an edition that's only a few years old

I have two books I can recommend.
1. Handbook of Switchgears - Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited
this book is more towards the POCO side and is some heavy reading.

2. Electrical Equipment Handbook Troubleshooting & Maintenance - Philip Kaimeh
this book deals with the electrical in the buildings and is somewhat heavy in the reading, but has very good info.

These books and others can be purchased at Amazon. Amazon has some pretty good to great deals on books. I have purchased many books there for a fraction of the normal cost. I recently made a purchase of a book that came out Dec 21 (newly published 2nd edition) for less than 1/2 the cost from other location.

There are some books that cannot be had on Amazon, but as I mentioned there are some very good deals.

Pierre,
Thanks, I think I'll try to find a copy of your second recommendation
'Electrical Equipment Handbook Troubleshooting & Maintenance' - Philip Kaimeh , perhaps through a library first, than I'll look to purchase if it contains what I'm looking for. Judging by the title it would cover what I'm searching for, hopefully it's not in a language too far over my interpretive skills though .
Thanks again,
Carl
