2wd or 4wd?

Not sure if this is the right area but here goes. I live in the northeast and am buying a new F150 Pickup truck. I wrestled with the 4wd pricetag but this truck is much less$$$ and has a limited slip differential option which I am told will handle much better on winter road conditons than a regular 2wd. I anyone familier with this, or have any opinions on this type of setup for the roads in new england. Thanks

Personally, I'd buy 4wd. But, with weight in the back and studded snow tires, you'll have not trouble on the winter roads. Without good snow tires, you'll have trouble on bad days. I have studded snows on my vans and can go anywhere (on road). Muddy sites are another story.

I would go for the 4WD if you could. Around here we average over 4 feet of snow per winter. That's enough to make those times that you're in a two wheel drive vehicle to wish you had 4 wheel drive.

I too would go for the 4WD over the 2WD. It is good to have the 4WD when you need it. I will not own a truck that is not 4WD.

From an old off-roader. Get the 4wd, but don't use it until you really NEED it. Get used to how it drives in 2wd. Then when you get stuck in 2wd, you have something to fall back on. If your experience tells you that you won't make it in 2wd, just don't try it.

Up here @ 7000' and no salt allowed for roads if I don't have 4WD I can't work on many days. We buy only 1Ton 4WD dullies w/utility bodies. I'm thinking of adding a 4WD van to the fleet, any suggestions?

I spent my youth in Mass, I remember my dad filling the back of his pickup with "pig lead" for traction. Road clearing is a lot better nowadays so my relatives there say they dont need 4x4 anymore, but they also dont have to be on the jobsite by 7 A.M... Go for it
