I'm a bit out of my wheelhouse on this project.

I have a portable machine that will need a cable for outdoor portable us, it will have a quick disconnect on it for plug / unplug operation.
3 Phase 480VAC 3 wire +GND 3/0 cable. I am thinking Type: G cable, (others ??)

Since type G is listed in 400.4 and 400.5 column "F"
Then I can use table 400.5 column "F" for ampacity (75C = 240A)
Does this seem correct ?

I would use Type W for this. Have done it many times for Experimental Shelters that get moved frequently. This is the same cable that is generally used for Shore Power Cables for ships. Very tough stuff. Just be mindful of the need for proper termination for finely stranded conductors. Also, it can be difficult to strip; the outer jacket is VERY tough and the inside insulation is soft.

Yes, column F for ampacity.

Thank you Mark. And it is actually for a dock loader for loading ships..

Type G has 4 conductors plus ground. You would wind up with an extra and that's not cheap.

Type G-GC has 3 conductors plus ground. (Right number for what you spec)

You can get Type W any way. 4 conductors is how they number it, ground is the same as the phases. Slightly more money than type G-GC.

Type G-GC is the cheapest but not by much. Type W would be a little more standard.
