Im feeding a single phase 200a sub at the main living structure of a house, from a detached garage where the service is currently located. Like the title states I wanted to ask if anyone sees an issue with using 3/16 galvanized rope (mast to mast) instead of ACSR? As 4/0 Al quadruplex with an ACSR conductor has been difficult to find, for my conductors I will be using 4/0 triplex with an added #2 for my grounding conductor.
Thanks in advance

Sound like using the 3/16" rope as the support strand and attaching the triplex+EGC to that? ((How?) What's the distance? If nothing else, you need to calcualte the load and sag on the messenger and match that to the anchor points.

If does seem like a lot of work.

I think he’s adding an insulated grounded conductor, not EGC?

Is the concern that the existing messenger can’t carry the extra wire? Depending on the span and how much tension is required to maintain height, it may not be necessary.

I think he is adding a messenger wire as he stated, "As 4/0 Al quadruplex with an ACSR conductor has been difficult to find" He also states he is using a #2 for his EGC (grounding).

The way I read it, he is taking 4/0 triplex (2 conductors plus the messenger) and adding a #2 “grounding conductor”, which I interpreted to mean “grounded conductor”. The messenger could still serve as the EGC.

In any case, the triplex already has a messenger that might carry the added #2.

Sorry for the delay, this was the day before my vacation
And nope, I meant what I stated:
My originally purchased cable -4/0,4/0,2/0 (sunlight resistant)
4/0s for my hots, 2/0 for my grounded (neutral, white wire, etc)
Then I added a #2 for my grounding conductor (green conductor, ground wire, etc.)
Wanting to use the braided rope strictly for support, this will not be a conductor of any sort, just a messenger. Again, all conductors listed above does not include a messenger. Im hoping the braided rope will act as a messenger
The span is 30-40'

Hope that helps clarify

You going to get a lasher to secure it?
