I am going to put in a 200amp 3 phase service in a garage. Any tip on how to get my wire form A to B? I need to go along the roof line about 15 feet, enter the building through cinder block and down the wall 10 feet to the meter socket. I heard I could use SER cable from the weather head across the wall outside and enter the building then use 2in emt to protect it down to the meter. Is this true?

I believe code states 4 feet of service entrance wire on the inside before a disconnect is needed. Better check that first before anything else. I live in Pittsburgh, and there shall be no metering on the interior of any structure.

i was gonna put th meter outside but it is there driveway for moving cars in and out so I thought inside would be the safest. I was thinking about using 4 conductor SER cable too since they don't make that in SEU. Is that legal? I can't find that anyware

Glad that someone pointed out that the "Mythical 4 Foot (or 5 foot as I was taught) Rule" doesn't really exist. I once put a panel in the next stud space over from the penetration and when questioned by the inspector, I told him it was well within the 5' rule. He told me to go to my code book and look that up while he inspected the rest of the house. I came back with my tail between my legs. He said "It isn't in there, is it?" Luckily, he was in a good mood and let me get by that time!

commercial garage

commercial garage

check out section article 511 in the 2008 nec code book, if this is a commercial
garage you may be required to run it in conduit .

Thank you for straightening me out. Would not have thought that next stud over would be a problem. Will keep that in mind in the future.
