3 Phase Well Pump

Has anyone ever seen a pressure switch that is equiped with 6 contacts to facilitate a 3 phase well pump? Until now, I've only dealt with single phase well pumps and the typical Square D 4 contact pressure switch.

Are you saying you have one or do you need one.I have never seen a,Quote,,,,,, 3 PH pressure switch.The controls are normally single phase.

I've never done a 3 phase well pump before, however I'm about to. With single phase, we normally run L1 and L2 in and out of the pressure switch and then to the control box. Perhaps it's different with 3 phase.

Squar e D also makes 3 phase

The code does not require that the motor controller break all of the circuit conductors.

430.84 Need Not Open All Conductors. The controller shall not be required to open all conductors to the motor.

A two pole motor controller is permitted to control a 3 phase motor.

Tom, all of the commercial wells I dealt with for the prisons had a 3 pole starter with 120v coil. We ran the control wiring through the pressure switch

Yeah, your going to need a starter, does not have to be a 120 volt coil though, it can be 208,240 or 480. You control it through a standard pressure switch that you are used to, but that switch may not be rated for 480 if that's what you are using.

We use starters. I can't say I've ever seen a three phase well pump with it's own thermal protection, so even if you used a three phase pressure switch you'd still need to provide seperate O/L's for it.

Starters are much simpler, and it's common off the shelf parts.

Depending on what you're doing, often times we'll use a drive and pressure transmitter instead to keep a constant pressure.
