3-way switches

Someone may have to check me on this one, but I believe that the NEC does not require that room to have two switches for the light. But nor does it forbid two switches, if for example the room has two exits. So the question of, "should I" becomes more of a question of "do I want to."

I will have to advise you, however, that we are going to be limited on the amount of information we can give you. Specifically, the Forum rules prohibit us from helping you perform your own installation, if that is what you have in mind. If you are being told by an electrician that the NEC requires certain things, we can affirm or refute that kind of statement. We can even cite relevant NEC articles, if we wish. We just can't give any DIY advice. That is the desire of, and the rules imposed by, the Forum owner.

I am a plumber and I was wondering if my laundry room should have two wsitches for the one light?

*SHOULD* - No.
*COULD* - Yes.

My own personal preference is that each entrance to room have a switch, and while there is no requirement it really depends on the client's willingness to part with dead Presidents.

Charge in increments of $10, then you just have to get the client to part with dead Secretaries of the Treasury.

But more seriously, how far apart are these doors and why are there two of them? Are you willing to trip over laundry to save the money for a second switch? Would you install an additional hose bib on the opposite side of a house so the homeowner doesn't have to run a hose across the driveway?

I put a 3-way switch at each entrance in my laundry room even though i can stand in the middle and work one with my right hand and one with my left hand. And I love it....

I've lived in the same house for 25 years.
About a year ago, I installed a 3 way on my laundry room lights.
I don't know why I didn't do it years ago.
Something about "The cobbler's son not having any shoes".
It's convenient when you can turn the light on when entering in one door and exiting the other....Duh.

I can't remember the last time I wired a laundry room without putting in 3way when there were two entrances. However in my house the switch coming in from the garage never gets used even though the thought of not putting it there would never cross my mind.
