Hello and thanks for reading my post.

I am wanting to wire a row of 220 volt Metal Hailde Fixtures in a 3wat configureation.

I have contacted Leviton and Pass and Seymour Both said they didn't make / sell 2 pole 3 way swutches??

Could someone please help me out with this?

How do you wire 220 Volt lighting in a 3 way configureation.

Thanks in advance

I know I'm opening myslef up for a major blunder here, but, albeit a BAD idea, is it a NEC violation to just switch 1 leg of the lighting circuit ?
I wanted to say violation, but I can;t find the applicabel Code section.
AS standard 3 way swith arrangement in one leg would service the purpose. Would it be legal?
(That said, I'd use the contactor, but I'm not paying the bill)

Does 410.141(A) tickle your fancy?

Does that apply to 220 volt lighting fixtures?:)

Maybe.

Guys, 410.81 would apply to neon, not fluorescent or HID lighting.

I don't think any fluorescents or HID operate above 1000 volts.

But ....... check out 410.54(B) in the 2005, he needs a contactor.

Good call iwire I agree .

You could use a 277 volt heavy duty single pole light switch and just break one leg,or use the double pole threeways you mentioned .

With the double pole threeways you would just have double the travelers you would have 4 wires instead of two for travelers. Just imagine the neutral as a hot wire and the extra set of travelers break and make it.

But if the load is too heavy for these switches use a lighting contactor and the circuit would be a normal 3 way but it would be controlling the coil of the contactor.
