A journeyman electrician that works with me always argues that you can't use three for two GFI circuits. I think if bring a 3-wire into first gfi box splice and pig tail neutral to that gfi Recept then continue it in 2-wire to other circuit begining GFI. Does anyone see a problem with this?

As I read the OriginalPost, he wants to put two wire GFI devices 'downstream' of a three wire (shared neutral) circuit. That will work just fine.

What won't work is to put a shared neutral circuit 'downstream' of ordinary two wire GFI devices. My guess is that the person on the other side of the argument (mentioned in the OP) is thinking of this situation. You _can_ GFI protect shared neutral circuits, but this requires a double or triple pole GFI breaker.
