Hello,

I have a residential customer with a 30 space SQ-D, QO panel that has quite a few tandem breakers in it. Is there a limit to how many tandems you can put in these SQ-D QOs? The label to the panel has been peeled off.

Thank you,

Depend on the code in force at the time, but most of those panels were limited to 40 circuits.

With Square D gear, the model number tells you how many tandems it'll take.

A 2040 will take 20 tandems. 2030 will take 10. 2020 won't take any, nor will a 3030 or a 4040.

Notches in the outer mounting rail will also be a clue. If there's a notch, it'll accept a tandem. No notch=no tandem, or you purchase a vintage notching tool to 'illegally create' the notch, or use the 'illegal' tandems.

Cool beans. I will check that out.
