Found this in an old BX reno>>>

As you can see, it's an antiquated 4 w , but taking it out reveled 2-2wires in BX

there wasn't the expected noodle......further both associated 3ways also have 2-2wires, each with the exiting noodles capped off , the whole shebang is juggling hots w/o a noodle involved at all...

So it seems that ,a few generations ago, the installing spark at the time was trying to mimic a K&T carter in BX

Which brings me to my Q, wasn't 300.20 always a fundamental theory found somewhere in past NEC cycles ?

Perhaps some of the NEC aficionados who collect older books could opine?
