The other week we went down to the Wisconsin dept. of commerce and in the saftey and buildings division and picked up the state amendments to NEC 2002 which we go by.

Part of what was recieved was chapter comm 16 electrical.

Upon many surprises I was disappointed that the following is part of the many amendments.

Comm 16.29 Protection against physical damage(300.4)
"NEC 300.4(D) Does not apply in Wisconsin."

I have been looking at this for days and cannot figure out why the state has decided not to accept this important article of the NEC!

Well I am not going to have it change anything for me .....we follow 300.4(D) anyways but just cannot see anyone doing different in regards to this,

this seems like such a simple common sense work practice that no one should question its place and just follow the rules.

Can anyone see a reason why this article would not be accepted at the state level?
Like I said ........looking at this for days this seems "stupid" at best to not accept this requirement but maybe I am missing something........ just cannot see what their reasons would be for this.

Re: 300.4(D)

The reason changes go into the Code is some compelling reason. The ROP or ROC will be able to tell you the reasons. I would like to help but that was done while I still teaching and not on a CMP.

After a change is made, a jurisdiction may say that they have not had a problem the new rule is supposed to take care of. At that point, they write it out of the local Code via an amendment. I suggest you get involved with the IAEI (Wisconsin Chapter). They will know why all (most) of the amendments have been adopted and the organization will be a great learning experience. :D
