Does 300.4 (F) cover mezzanine areas. 300.4 (F) calls out "under metal-corrugated sheet roof decking" in the application I'm dealing with that is the product that is being used. once the deck is down plywood is going to be laid down and screwed to it. and than shelving will be installed for storage (retail store location). The existing installation is MC ran above in the grooves and than into the lights or recpt. I believe this does not meet code anymore, and all new install needs to be 1 1/2" from the deck. co-work disagrees. His point is that it is not a roof because it is inside the store. My two points are the code calls out a specific product which is being used here, and also the intended purpose of the code is for protection. We could have the protection issue when screwing down the plywood or in the future when shelving is installed or moved.
My question is what do others believe this intended purpose of this code apply here or only for under a true roof?

In my opinion it is intended to apply only to actual roof applications. That is where screws of excessive length are commonly used.

I agree with Don. Long roofing fasteners are the problem and the reason that the 1.5" spacing under a roof was added into the NEC.
