In review of a machine design an OEM proposed running mechanical systems(weld water) and electrical systems(480v) in an upper structure floor. Both the electrical and mechanical were to be run in a common channel(24" widex12" high) with removeable floor covers. I rejected the installation due to 300.8 requiring those systems to not be run in the same tray. My thought process was that this entire 24" trough was the raceway and this installation was prohibited. Mechanical to be run in hoses, and the electrical in TC-ER cables.

They redesigned the machine and installed two separate trays below the machine balcony to carry these systems. Since this is a standard design built for world wide customers, I am now getting challenged to allow this installation.

I have reviewed NFPA 79 and understand it allows using structures for raceways as long as we stay away from hydraulic fluids..

Any advice.
