I remember several years ago in WI that we had to seal all box penetrations when the box was mounted in exterior walls. (residential) What I remember was a stink about where to find the boxes (Nutek Mfg.) I remember the inspectors wanted all the holes to sealed, or caulked, if we were'nt using these special Nutek boxes. My question is this: Was what I am talking about dropped from the 2002 cycle or does 314.17(A) cover this. I also looked in my State Admin Code and am unable to find a reference to this item

Re: 314.17(A) ???

Article 110-12(a) of the 1999 NEC required all openings in raceways, boxes, etc to be effectively closed. As you stated, some AHJ were intrepreting this meant every single little hole or opening in any enclosure like unused mounting holes or small maufacturing holes.

Article 110.12(A) of the 2002 NEC was revised to add the words " unused cable or raceway openings." This has helped to clear up the issue. :)

I think Ryan has the correct answer here. I have never used or even seen NuTek boxes but here is a link to the product. NuTek
