a 320a service is requested on a current residential bid. The print shows the meter and 2 panels located side by side inside garage 70' away. First can the main breaker be that far away from meter? 2nd how would a 320a service be wire to feed 2 panels? would i put a main breaker disconnect at meter location then feed both panels side by side. i have never seen a home with 320 service better yet seen a 320a panel. better yet what size wire would i run to meter. 600 ALu seems to be the wire but looking for a better advise

In this area the common practice would be to use two 200 amp panels. IF you can keep your service conductors outside the dwelling until you feed the panels it might be allowed depending on local jurisdiction and how your AHJ interprets 230.71(A),
Commonly here there would be two -200 amp breakers at the meter sub-feeding the panels.

so it would be common to feed 2 200a from the 320 meter? what if any is the reason you would keep conductors ouside and not ran inside ?

230.71(A) requires OCP as close as possible to where the conductors enter the building so if you want to run 70ft inside you will need OCP at the point of entry (some jurisdictions require outside disconnecting).
