320A residential service wiring methods

All of the 320A resi services I've seen installed are wired such that 2 sets of conductors come off the load side of the meter, each set going to a seperate 200A panel. Seems logical.

I've watched a couple YT videos now where they take those 2 sets of conductors, run them into a trough, then into 4 port Polaris connectors then split the conductors off to each panel from there...The panels are of course 2" above the trough.

What is the logic behind doing this for 5' of distance? Other than adding several hundred dollars in parts and labor to the bill? I could see some partial value in this if they were going 50+ feet before splitting off, but when the panels are right next to the meter, why?
