Based on the wording of the subsection, I believe that NM is permitted above a drop ceiling of a hall way in a residential building with multiple dwelling units.
(2) Exposed in dropped or suspended ceilings in other than one- and two-family and multifamily dwellings
If that was not the intent, the subsection should just say "dwellings" and not "one- and two-family and multifamily dwellings".
