Is romex allowed above a suspended 2x4 cieling in a supermarket in Rhode Island?

Section 334.12(A)(2) “Uses Not Permitted” states that nonmetallic cable cannot be installed above a suspended ceiling other than in dwellings.

No, not allowed under the current code, but many supermarkets in the area were wired with NM when it was compliant to do so. Is that what you're asking about?

If you're talking about repairs, it would have to be MC cable, but I can assure you that NM gets used anyway. :happyyes:;)

It is not allowed in any state in that application not only by current code but at least as far back as 1999 which I just looked up under the same article no changes.I suggest using MC and kx clips to support your work. Not saying it hasnt been done I have been in numerous chain stores and have seen NM ran right along the tile not supported anywhere.

They are trying to amend the code in NH to allow more wide spread use of NM above suspended ceilings.
They have done this in MA.

Not true, Massachusetts has always amended the NEC to allow it.
