Only Chapter 8 is "stand alone" and requires reference to the raceways installation rules. For raceways installed for use with Chapter 7 applications, the wiring method rules found in Chapter 3 apply unless a rule in Chapter 7 says they do not. Most of the Chapter 7 articles have a xxx.3 section that says only the part of Article 300 that are specifically referenced apply to that installation. One problem is that many code users read that rule as saying the rules in Chapter 3 do not apply...that is not what the language in the xxx.3 sections says. The bottom line is that where you install raceway, not matter what application the conductors in the raceway are used for. the Chapter 3 rules for that raceway apply.
