If I have a disconnect mounted to a busway 12' above the floor and the receptacle it's feeding is less than 25' away, does that disconnect need a pole attached to operate it?

Or does (exception 1 : As permited in 240.21(B)(2) exclude that from needing a device (pole, chain, etc...) to make the disco within reach.

240.21(B)(2) is for OCP of a 25' tap, not disconection requirments

Discos are require for equipment, and motors, I wouldn't think a disco would be required for a receptacle?

Actually there is different types of equipment, refrigerated cases, convienience receptacles, kitchen equipment from mutiple busways.

Yea after re-reading 368.12, and the exception, which sends us to 240.21, which I didn't see anything that would relive the hanging ropes.?

What I'm asking is if it's less than 25' then would no disconnecting means be required. If it's not required but still present would it still need to be within reach?

If a device is required to operate the breaker is a portable pole acceptable?

This is a compact 3 circuit bus protected by a 60a breaker.

Is the disconnect fused? If so provide size. Also what size is the conductor?

Most cases it's a 20a single pole breaker in the disconnect. There are a few 3 pole 30a.
Conductors are #12 and some #10 for the 30a ckts. Both SJO and MC.

The bus is fed with #6 I believe.
