I've specified that several medium voltage splices on a project be made with the 3M QS4 cold shrink splicing; a very good product from what I know of it. The contractor is now proposing to a Rubbermaid bolted T-bodies claiming that the connection will be just as reliable. He's also stating that will help him meet a fast approaching deadline none of us want him to miss.
I would have specified something like what he's proposing if I thought there would ever be an occaision to disconnect these feeders. No such scenario exists. But by the same token, I don't have any reason to doubt that the T-Bodie approach won't be just as reliable and therefore am disinclined not to grant the request.
I would be interested in your opinions/experiences with the two technologies and whether or not one is better than the other for a permanent connection.
Thanks,
Mike
