I utilize excel, and created a custom panel schedule with macros, and all that good stuff to automate my panel schedule totals for me then I create another spread sheet to total my building loads by type equipment, receptacle, lighting, etc to apply the correct demand factors and get a building total load, use excel and create a template save it and re-use it each time. The nice thing every time you come across something new you just add it to you schedule to keep it up to date, and you can link, export, etc data from excel to other programs.
