Good morning,
I am doing an application where I have tight depth and need a shallow 4 gang box. I need greater than 38.25 cuin of space. I purchased 4, 3x2x2 Southwire metal gangable boxes which the advertisement listed as a 10cuin capacity;
When I got the box the engraving on the back wall lists it as 9cuin capacity. The NEC table shows 3x2x2 boxes as having 10 cuin.
What is correct? With 9cuin per box my 4gang does not meet code, but with 10cuin per box it does meet code. Do I need to size up to a 3x2x2.25" box?
I have always heard that you have to go by whatever is engraved on the box?

The Deep Switch Box is used to support toggle switches, duplex devices and decorative devices. It also supports a variety of electrical outlets. Gangable switch boxes allow the installer to construct a box to hold multiple devices. Additionally, this box is both UL and RoHS compliant for safety.
