4/0 cable protection

Is there a code requirement to have to provide protection for a 4/0 SER cable that is fastened to the bottom side of floor joists in an unfinished basement?

Ceiling height is 9'

None that I'm aware of, unless it definatly is subject to some kind of damage.

100' 2/0 Cu would have been just shy of a grand.

2008 NEC

338.10(B)(4)(a) sends you to 334.15(C) which states its ok to support SE cable to the lower edges of the joist as long as the cables are not smaller than two 6 awg or three 8 awg
