4/0Al 180A Rating

I’m currently bidding a mobile home service with a 200 amp pedestal. I planned to run 4/0 aluminum feeder wire from the pedestal to the home and then I started second-guessing because the ampacity is 180 A. However, this is still allowed, even though it’s not the service because those wires are feeding the entire load, is that correct? I’m really hoping I don’t have to run 350. I’m still on the 2017 code so we aren’t doing outside disconnects or anything so I just haven’t encountered this a bunch.

You can use the 83% rule or the T310.12 for this feeder. Also at 180 amps you could apply the next size up rule {240.4(B)} and use a 200 amp OCPD as long as the calculated load is 180 amps or less.

Plus, there is a general rule that says feeder conductors need not be larger than the service conductors.
