#4 AWG copper acceptable for grounding?

I know NEC says minimum of #6 is all that is needed for grounding to metallic water pipe; however, just want to be sure. #4 copper AWG is acceptable as well, correct?

No, #6 cu is the maximum size required for made electrodes (rods, driven pipes, plates, etc.)

The minimum size required for water-piping depends on the service size; it's #4 cu for 200a.

I thought it was dependant on the size of the service conductors, not the rating of the service.

Actually the minimum size is #8. You can use any larger size conductor if you wish.
