So we're temporarily hooking up a dedicated piece of equipment that pulls 60 A. the cord is rated for 60 A but we're hooking it up to 150 amp breaker, that doesn't sound right but my boss says go ahead and do it. What does the code say about this? Thank you for your help.

240.4 says that conductors shall be protected at their ampacity, but there are exceptions. Motors, air conditioners, welders are common ones, also tap conductors. If there is some kind of protection on the machine I might not be too worried about it.

If the code could talk it would say ,,,, "Use me to settle any doubts you may have".

It is unlikely the lugs on the breaker are rated for the fine stranding of a cord's conductor.
